Measurement of the rate of the decay KL→e+e−γ and observation of a form factor in this decay

1990

Abstract A large sample of Dalitz decays, K L → e + e − γ , has been observed. The branching ratio is Γ(K L →e + e − γ) Γ(K L → all )=(9.2±0.5±0.5)×10 −6 in good agreement with theoretical predictions. We observe an enhancement at high masses in the distribution of the invariant electron-positron pair mass, compared to the distribution expected from QED. This excess is interpreted as being due to virtual mesons contributing to the photon propagator.

NA48/62 latest results

2017

The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS recorded in 2007 a large sample of K+ ? µ+?µ decays. A peak search in the missing mass spectrum of this decay is performed. In the absence of observed signal, the limits obtained on B(K+ ? µ+?h) and on the mixing matrix element |Uµ 4| are reported. The upgraded NA62 experiment started data taking in 2015. About 5×1011K+ decays have been recorded so far to measure the branching ratio of the K+ ? ?+?? decay. Preliminary results from the K+ ? ?+?? analysis based on about 5% of the 2016 statistics are reported.

Phase II trial of bevacizumab and dose/dense chemotherapy with cisplatin and metronomic daily oral etoposide in advanced non-small-cell-lung cancer p…

2011

Bevacizumab, is a humanized monoclonal antibody to vasculo-endothelial- growth-factor, with anticancer activity in non-small-cell-lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Our previous results from a dose/finding phase I trial in NSCLC patients, demonstrated the anti-angiogenic effects and toxicity of a newest bevacizumab-based combination with fractioned cisplatin and daily oral etoposide. We designed a phase II trial to evaluate in advanced NSCLC patients the antitumor activity and the safety of this novel regimen. In particular, 45 patients (36 males and 9 females), with a mean age of 54 years, an ECOG ≤2, stage III B/IV and NSCLC (28 adenocarcinomas, 11 squamous-cell carcinomas, 2 large-cell carcin…

proNGF Measurement in Cerebrospinal Fluid Samples of a Large Cohort of Living Patients With Alzheimer's Disease by a New Automated Immunoassay

2021

The discovery of new biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) is essential for an accurate diagnosis, to conceive new strategies of treatments, and for monitoring the efficacy of potential disease-modifying therapies in clinical trials. proNGF levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) represent a promising diagnostic biomarker for AD, but its validation was hampered by the absence of a reliable immunoassay. In the literature, proNGF is currently measured in postmortem brain tissue by semiquantitative immunoblot. Here we describe the development and validation of a new method to measure proNGF in the CSF of living patients. This method, based on molecular size separation by capillary electropho…

Proliferation-, estrogen-, and T-cell-related metagenes to predict outcome after adjuvant/neoadjuvant chemotherapy for operable breast cancer in the …

2013

1014 Background: Predicting recurrence in operable breast cancer (BC) despite optimal chemotherapy would be relevant to new drug development and tailored treatments. Methods: A large series (n=3,154) of public Affymetrix gene-expression profiles (GEP) was used to define prognostic/predictive metagenes in different BC subtypes. In ER+/HER2- a proliferation and an ER-related metagene were combined to predict low, intermediate and high risk of recurrence. In TN and in HER2+ a T cell metagene was used to predict low, intermediate and high risk (higher expression associated with lower risk). The metagenes were validated in patients enrolled in the phase III ECTO trial (Gianni L. JCO 2009) and t…

Quality of Life Analysis of TORCH, a Randomized Trial Testing First-Line Erlotinib Followed by Second-Line Cisplatin/Gemcitabine Chemotherapy in Adva…

2012

INTRODUCTION:: The TORCH (Tarceva or Chemotherapy) trial randomized patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer to first-line erlotinib followed by second-line cisplatin/gemcitabine versus. standard inverse sequence. The trial, designed to test noninferiority in overall survival, was stopped at interim analysis because of inferior survival in the experimental arm. Quality of life (QoL), a secondary outcome, is reported here. METHODS:: QoL was assessed at baseline and every 3 weeks during first-line, using European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire - Core 30 and QLQ-lung cancer specific module (LC13). Mean changes from baseline within arms …

ER-/PgR+ breast cancer is a separate entity characterized by distinct phenotype: Comprehensive reevaluation of cases from Polish and Hungarian center…

2020

e12554 Background: ER negative (-)/PgR positive (+) breast cancer (BC) is very uncommon and questioned by many experts. We comprehensively reevaluated ER-/PgR+ BCs in the large cohort from Polish and Hungarian centers. Methods: FFPE blocks from 105 ER-/PgR+ tumors (45 breast biopsies and 64 post-operative samples from tumors not exposed to systemic therapy) were collected from 10 Polish and 3 Hungarian centers. In 60 cases available original slides with ER/PgR staining underwent reevaluation by 3 pathologists (MK, RP, WB) for ER and PgR expression by ASCO/CAP criteria. Subsequently, all samples were stained with 3 antibodies against ER (Dako monoclonal (MC) mouse anti-ERα, clone 1D5; Dako …

The Return-to-Entrepreneurship Puzzle

2013

The returns to entrepreneurship are monetary and non-monetary. We offer new evidence on these returns using a large sample of genetically identical male twins. Our within-twin analysis suggests that OLS estimates are downwards, and traditional first-differenced panel data estimates upwards biased. We find no differences in the earnings of men with either low or high education. Our within-twin analysis of non-monetary returns shows that entrepreneurs with low education work longer hours and have greater responsibilities, but also face a reduced risk of divorce and less monotonous work tasks. The same does not apply to highly educated entrepreneurs.
